Ombudsperson

BRAC has established an Office of the Ombudsperson with a comprehensive mandate to investigate any incident of misadministration or misuse of power within BRAC. This includes grievances such as corruption, abuse of power or discretion, negligence, oppression, nepotism, rudeness, arbitrariness, unfairness and discrimination.

Brigadier General Abidur Reza Khan, psc (Retd)

BRAC’s current Ombudsperson is Brigadier General Abidur Reza Khan, PSC (Retd). Brig Gen Abid has had a distinguished career spanning over two decades in the Bangladesh Army, where he held senior command and staff appointments. His responsibilities included leading operational units, managing complex organisational structures, and advising senior military leadership on strategy, security, and institutional matters. His experience covers both field command and high-level administration, with deep expertise in planning, operations, investigations, and personnel leadership.

He also served internationally as Chief of Operations for the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia, where he coordinated teams from 23 countries, oversaw ceasefire monitoring, and ensured effective operational reporting to UN leadership.

Beyond his military career, Brig Gen Abid has contributed to public service, led development consultancy projects under the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, and held leadership roles in national institutions, including the Public Service Commission and Bangladesh Golf Federation.

He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), an honours degree in War Studies from Pakistan, and has completed advanced military training in Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and the USA. He joined BRAC as Ombudsperson on 10 March 2026.
