People with disabilities in Bangladesh remain subjected to discrimination and abuse, unlikely to be involved in any economic activity and forced into poverty. In 2000, the programme established the BRAC Limb and Brace Centre (BLBC) in Dhaka and then the BRAC Orthosis and Physiotherapy Centre (BOPC) in Mymensingh. Through them, we hope to make people with physical disabilities more independent and participate in everyday activities just like everybody else.

Our work helps design artificial limbs, braces and other devices for individual use. They are trained and allowed to practise their mobility with them while their families and caregivers are counselled on how they provide support. Physiotherapy services are also provided to people suffering from low back pain, neck pain or other conditions. Partnerships with specialised institutes enable the participants to receive further specialised care.
