Advocacy for improved health, nutrition and food system

Health, nutrition and food have traditionally been considered to be separate silos despite being inextricably linked. BRAC works to sensitise governments into systems thinking and to address challenges across the entire spectrum. The advocacy work is multifaceted and ranges from the community level to policy-making levels.

BRAC advocates to the Community Clinic Health Support Trust for greater service provision at the grassroots level community clinics. Technical and human resource support is given to community clinics as part of the continued efforts to strengthen health systems. In addition to refurbishing birthing facilities in community clinics, community health workers offer maternal and child care services at the facilities.

To ensure that working mothers are able to care for their children appropriately, BRAC  advocates for the seven minimum standards for employment of mothers in 80 ready-made garment factories. BRAC also advocates for provision and enforcement of paid maternity leave, breastfeeding accommodation and supportive workplace environment.

In addition, to sustainably address the rising challenges of non-communicable diseases and the triple burden of malnutrition, South Asian governments are sensitised on and encouraged into adopting a food systems approach.
