About BRAC Southern Sudan
BRAC involvement in Sudan began in early
2007 with five branch offices in three payam
covering 56 Boma in and around Juba. The
microfinance program was established in
May 2007 and has already formed 153 groups
and distributed USD 386,271 in loans. An
additional six branch offices are expected
to open by September 2007, which will bring
the total to eleven active offices in Sudan.
These offices employ 31 national staff and
three expatriate staff members.

New Programs:
Income Generation for Vulnerable Group Development
(IGVGD)
This program will be implemented through
support from BRAC and the World Food Program
(WFP) to combine food aid with training
and credit for 500 returnee refugee women.
Essential Health Care (EHC)
This project will be an integral part of
BRAC Sudan’s microfinance program as
community health promoters (CHP) will be
recruited from the existing microfinance
group members.
