About BRAC Sierra Leone:
BRAC has launched a $15 million poverty alleviation initiative in post-conflict Sierra Leone and Liberia in partnership with the Soros Economic Development Fund, Open Society Institute West Africa, Omidyar Network, and Humanity United.

First loans disbursed June 2009
Over the next two years BRAC anticipates the following for West Africa:
Mobilizing 72,000 microfinance members
64,000 microfinance borrowers
40 operating branches
Cumulative loan disbursement of $14.5 M
Health, Agriculture, and Livestock
Launched in November 2008
250 Community Health Volunteers have been selected
30 Extension Worker/Entrepreneurs have been trained
A demonstration plot area of 52 acres has been established.
Over the next two years BRAC anticipates the following for West Africa:
Training 8,000 farmers
Training 2,500 livestock and poultry rearers
Recruiting and training 400 community health volunteers.
BRAC registered in Sierra Leone in 2008 and will begin programs there in early 2009.
