If did not meet Abed Bhai in person, I would never have learnt that there are two types of people: one who dreams; and the other who lives the dreams. Abed Bhai was the one who lived his dream and that dream was to help lifting people out of poverty. Just before I left BRAC earlier this year, he said to me "Foysol, my dream is to eradicate extreme poverty" I said "This is very good and we do it in Bangladesh". He said "My dream is not just for Bangladesh, my dream is for the whole world!". May Allah make this dream become a reality and for every person who is lifted out of poverty, we know that the legend will live on ... Rest in Peace dear Abed Bhai!

The world has lost an icon but Sir Abed`s legacy is in the millions of lives he has improved and the institutions he has left behind. I feel privileged to have had him as a mentor, as he has been to many, and will be forever grateful for the opportunity he provided to start my career at BRAC. The world lost an extraordinary person today, Dr. Fazle Abed, founder of the world`s largest ngo BRAC. Called "one of the most dynamic and selfless humanitarians of our time.†He worked to alleviate poverty and increase education in the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and Africa. To be in his presence was to be in the presence of humility, respect, and someone fully committed to the service of others.

It is an extreme sad day for the people of Bangladesh. I hope the BRAC family won`t rest the speed of Sir Abed`s dream of eradicating poverty,providing shelter to the homeless or refugees, educating children and many other projects. The movement that he had started 47 years ago brought name and fame and above all bring dignity and self-sufficiency to the country. BRAC is providing services to many Asian countries and also across the Atlantic in Haiti, which shows how efficient this organization is. One of the biggest organizations in name and huge in service. I met Abed first in January 1987 at the start of the period that saw the launch of what was to become the BRAC Bank, supported by the Donor Consortium. My association with him continued through three decades until I helped with the relaunch of BRAC UK. Throughout I have been constantly awed by Abed`s brilliance, his humanity, his practicality and his modesty. A great loss to Bangladesh and the world, but a great model for those who continue his mission.
