My thoughts and prayers are with you today
My thoughts and prayers are with you today along with thousands if not millions from many countries. When I met Abed Bhai in August this year and he thanked me for writing about his/BRAC’s journey (https://www.dhakatribune.com/opinion/op-ed/2019/08/11/recalling-brac-s-journey) I certainly did not realize that he was unwell. In fact he was more concerned about my brush with colon cancer and we compared notes about knees, hips and arthritis. I told him that when I was in the UK in July this year I had gone to Oxfam’s new HQ in Oxford to show a 1971 documentary and talk about Bangladesh’s journey. I mentioned that on the ground floor of the building there are, hanging in the corridors many large size photos of outstanding people who have been connected to Oxfam. Most of the photos are of former Oxfam staff members – mostly deceased – but I was able to inform him that his photo is there. I am so very glad that his photo is there and also that I was the Oxfam person who handed him 3 lakh rupees in Kolkata way back in January/February 1972. Much love and many hugs.
