The Indian
Minister of State for Commerce, Mr. Jairam Ramesh, made a call on the
Chairperson of BRAC, Mr. Abed, on Friday, April 21st at the BRAC Centre
at 75, Mohakhali, Dhaka. The Minister, visiting Bangladesh on a short
tour for the first time, was keen on meeting and exchanging views with
Mr. Abed and other BRAC officials on the roles of NGOs on a variety
of issues including microfinance, infant mortality and education. Following
a film on BRAC and a short discussion the meeting moved to a lunch at
the Shuruchi Restaurant and culminated in a visit to the BRAC Aarong
store in Tezgaon. The Indian team were accompanied to Aarong by Ms.
Tamara Abed, Head, Aarong and Ayesha Abed Foundation. Also present at
the meeting was Mr. Faruq A. Choudhury, Adviser, BRAC. |
