On June 9, the First Lady of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Museveni and 12 delegates visited various BRAC programmes. The objectives of the team’s visit were to widen their breadth of knowledge and understanding of BRAC’s work in the rural level. The team visited a village organisation and non-formal primary school in Dhamrai where they observed different teaching and learning styles. The team also visited the Ayesha Abed Foundation where they observed women apply their skills of embroidery and tailoring, and the Kishori Kendra where they observed young adolescent women engaging in various extra-curricular activities such as dancing, singing, reading etc.

The team was accompanied by Aminul Alam, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC; AMR Chowdhury, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC, Shabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Programme Head, Microfinance; and Fariduzzaman Rana, Communications Officer, BRAC Public Affairs and Communications.

In honour of the First Lady of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Museveni, BRAC also hosted a reception on June 8, at the Banquet Hall, BRAC Centre. The First Lady along with the Deputy High Commissioner of Uganda to Delhi and 12 other delegates attended the event. Speakers at the reception included Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson, BRAC, and Ugandan First Lady, Mrs. Museveni.

Prior to the reception, the team engaged in a discussion with Fazle Hasan Abed, Chairperson, BRAC, Faruq Choudhury, Adviser, BRAC, Abdul-Muyeed Chowdhury, Executive Director, BRAC and Md. Aminul Alam, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC. Earlier this year, Mrs. Museveni had been visited by BRAC’s Deputy Executive Directors, Aminul Alam and AMR Chowdhury. The First Lady and her team expressed interest in the work done by BRAC and congratulated BRAC on its success both nationally and internationally.
