| Author-Journalist Philip Hilts visits BRAC for book on Global Health | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Philip Hilts, Author-Journalist, linked to the American PBS series, visited BRAC from March 7 to March 12 to write about BRAC in a book on global health issues to be published by Penguin and to come out around the same time as the TV series on global Health in November, 2005. Mr. Hilts has worked for the Washington Post for ten years, the New York Times for thirteen years and has written various books on science and health in the past eight years. While at BRAC, he had discussions and interviews with Mr. Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson, BRAC, Mr. Faruq Choudhury, Adviser, BRAC, Mr. Abdul-Muyeed Chowdhury, Executive Director, BRAC, Mr. AMR Chowdhury, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC and also had in-depth discussion with various members of the BRAC Health department including the Director of the BRAC Health Programmes, Mr. Faruque Ahmed. Mr. Hilts visited BRAC fields in Manikganj on March 8, where observed Village Organisation meeting (Dabi), Antenatal Clinic in Borongokhola village, Health Forum, BRAC Non Formal Primary School, TB Clinic at Manikganj Sadar, met with a health volunteer and visited a medicine shop conducted by the health volunteer. He also visited International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) where he had discussions with various key persons including Dr. David Sack, Dr. Yunus, Dr. Mizanur Rahman and Dr. Charles Larson. Previously, in February, Jill Shinefield and Gail Wilumsen, also with the American PBS, came to film BRAC for US public television program on global public health for WGBH/NOVA, Boston.
