To slow down the spread of COVID-19, a three-pronged risk communication intervention has been carried out across Bangladesh - household education, community ownership and orientation of local leaders.

Through household-level education, communities are sensitised on handwashing, mask wearing and social distancing. Masks and soaps are provided to families in vulnerability, to enable people to practice COVID-19 compliant behaviour, and handwashing stations at public spaces have been installed.

Simultaneously, Community COVID-19 Protection Committees comprise groups of local figures who push for awareness and monitoring within their respective communities.

Risk communication messages are disseminated in public spaces such as mosques, markets, transport hubs through billboards, banners, and miking. This is further made possible by onboarding locally influential individuals to spread awareness.

This hyper-local approach prevents clusters of infection at the grassroots level, eventually containing the spread.
