Disability care

People with disabilities in Bangladesh are often subject to discrimination and abuse, cannot get involved in economic activities and are often forced into poverty. The BRAC Limb and Brace Centre in Dhaka in 2000 and the BRAC Orthosis and Physiotherapy Centre was established in Mymensingh, both to support people living with physical disabilities.

These centres design artificial limbs, braces and other devices for individual use. Patients are trained and have access to these devices to practice their mobility with, while their families and caregivers are counselled on how to provide support. Physiotherapy services are also provided to support people suffering from low back pain, neck pain or other conditions. Partnerships with specialised institutes enable people to receive further therapy.
