Signs Second GFATM Grant Agreement with Partner NGOs to Control
Tuberculosis
BRAC and nine eminent development agencies,
namely, ICDDR,B , NATAB, Damien Foundation Bangladesh, Lepra-Bangladesh,
HEED Bangladesh, RDRS-Bangladesh, The Leprosy Mission, Lamb Hospital,
PIME Sister has entered into a multi-million dollar agreement
on 21 May,2006, to fight against Tuberculosis (TB) in relation
to the second grant (GFATM 5th round) where BRAC is one of the
Principal Recipients (PR) of the GFATM . The agreement was signed
between Mr Aminul Alam, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC and the
Heads of the respective organisations. Among others present in
the ceremony were Faruq Ahmed, Director Health- BRAC, S N Kairy,
Head of Finance and Accounts, BRAC.
Initially the contract has been signed
with the partner organizations for two-years (phase-I) with a
budget of US$ 3.86 million (taka 26 crore). On successful completion
of the first phase, the agreement will be renewed for another
three years with a budget of US$ 15.65 million. Under this agreement,
The activities will be implemented by the National TB Control
Programme, Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare in partnership with a number of NGOs
lead by BRAC. This is an unique example of public-private partnership
approved by the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) of Bangladesh
for securing a large amount of grant for controlling tuberculosis
with the full support of the Ministry of Health and Family welfare,
Government of Bangladesh.

and empowering the poor with a holistic approach. It has made
laudable contributions in the field of microfinance, health and
social development education. BRAC today reaches an estimated
110 million people in more than 68 thousand villages in 64 districts.
