Debapriya Bhattacharya is a macro-economist and public policy analyst, he is currently the Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Bangladesh - a premier civil society think tank in South Asia. Prior to joining CPD, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS). Dr. Bhattacharya received his M.Sc. (Economics) with distinction and Ph.D. (Economics) from the Plekhanov Institute of National Economy, Moscow. He was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford, and a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the Centre for Global Development (CGD), Washington D.C. He was also a visiting Fellow at the United Nations University-Institute of New Technology (UNU-INTECH), Maastricht and Department of Economics, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), Tokyo and Institute of Development Planning and Management (IDPM), Manchester. Dr. Bhattacharya has made contributions to a number of publications of the UNCTAD, UNDP and UNEP. He directs the Bangladesh component of the World Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF). He is a member of the Panel of Advisory Board of the International Centre for Trade and Development (ICTSD), Geneva and member of the Editorial Board, South Asian Studies. He is Chair of the EU-LDC Network and Member, Board of Trustees, South Asia Centre for Policy Studies (SACEPS). He is currently the Regional Editor of the Oxford Development Studies. He served as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Economic Association for three consecutive terms and sits in the Academic Council of BRAC University. |
