The Daily Prothom Alo appointed nine fellows from the Print Media Batch of 2006 of the Salma Sobhan Fellowship for Women in Journalism programme as district correspondents on 01 October 2006.

The appointed journalists, Laila Noor of Sylhet, Laili Begum of Kurigram, Nasima Haq Munni of Panchagarh, Kamrunnahar of Gaibandha, Anjuman Ara of Natore, Zilufa Sultana of Rangpur, Henryetta Sukh of Khagrachori, Shamsunnahar Binu of Patuakhali and Benu Begum Bizli of Lalmonirhat will work as correspondents of Prothom Alo from their respective districts.

Prothom Alo also organised a daylong training programme at its office for the newly appointed journalists on 28 September, 2006. Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Assistant Editors Shumona Sharmin and Zahid Reza Nur and Assistand News Editor Shahed Ali spoke on the occasion.

An Iftaar & Dinner Party was organised by BRAC in honour of the appointed fellows, held at the BRAC Centre also on 28 September. There they met with BRAC Founder and Chairperson Fazle Hasan Abed.

A total of 32 women from different districts of Bangladesh took part in the first Print Media Batch of the Salma Sobhan Fellowship in 2004, organised jointly by Prothom Alo, BRAC and Pratichi Trust.
