Indian Journalist Delegation visits BRAC

A delegation of senior journalists from India visited several BRAC field programmes in Gazipur on Saturday, June 24th, stopping at a BRAC Shushastho clinic, a BRACNet Digital Business Centre and a BRAC Primary School. The journalists are currently in Bangladesh to attend the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) summit taking place in Dhaka.

Dr. Faruque Ahmed, a Physician at the BRAC Shushastho Clinic, greeted the group at Telipara village in Gazipur and accompanied them on a tour of the Health Centre and its operations. Next the group was received by Mr. Abu Tayeeb, Project Manager at BRACNet, at the Digital Business Centre where they were briefed on the Centre’s facilities. Following this, the delegation visited a Primary School where they were entertained with songs and dances by the school’s students. The tour concluded at BRAC’s Centre for Development Management (BCDM) in Rajendrapur where the delegation met with Barrister Manzoor Hasan, Deputy Executive Director of BRAC. Following the viewing of a short film on BRAC, Mr. Hasan held a question-answer session with the group where BRAC’s history and activities were discussed.

The members of the distinguished group included, among others, Mr. S. Nihal Singh, Mr. M. K. Dhar of the Hindustan Times, Mr. Sumit Chakravartty of Mainstream Weekly, Mr. Murali Krishnan of Indo-Asian News Service, Mr. V. Sudarshan of Outlook Weekly, Mr. Ashis Charkabarti of The Telegraph and Mr. Syed Nooruzzaman of The Tribune. The Journalists thanked BRAC for arranging the tour and expressed their appreciation of the scope of BRAC’s programmes in Bangladesh.
