The initial training session for the Batch of 2007 of the Salma Sobhan Fellowship for Women in Journalism concluded today (Tuesday) at BRAC’s Training and Resource Centre (TARC) in Savar. A total of 56 women were given training under this initiative taken jointly by BRAC, Channel I and Pratichi Trust. The women were given theoretical as well as hands of training on various journalism and development topics. Among the eminent persons in the panel of trainers were M. M. Akash of Dhaka Univeristy, Sultana Kamal of Ain O Shalish Kendra, Atiur Rahman of Unnayan Shamunnay, Manzoor Hasan and Golam Samdani Fakir of BRAC, Shykh Seraj, Shah Alamgir, Santosh Mondol and Farhana Afroz of Channel I, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Z.I. Mamun and Munni Saha of ATN Bangla, Kazi Nabiul Haque of Banglavision, Zahid Reza Noor of Prothom Alo and TV Personality Progga Laboni. The training session ended with a cultural event in which trainee Fellows including Nasima Khanam, Umme Habiba, Taskina Yasmin Ferun Momtaj and Latefa Ansery performed music, dance and comedy shows. The 56 women from 54 districts of Bangladesh were selected to receive training in E-Media Journalism under the Fellowship’s 2nd Batch. Having completed the initial training phase, the trainees will return to their respective districts to complete field-based reporting assignments, a selection of which will be aired on Channel I. The year-long programme includes a second comprehensive training session and further fieldwork as well a concluding refreshers course. Communications Officer Q.
