Rahima
Akhter, a nine-year old student of BRAC Primary School at Korail have
topped the list in the “1st Intervida Painting Competition”,
arranged by Intervida, a Spanish NGO working for the welfare of the
under-privileged children. Ironically, her award-winning picture depicting
a “nobo-barsha mela” is entirely a creation from her imagination
as she has never been to a fair. Fifth among among her six siblings,
Rahima attends the Intervida after-school drawing and reading programmes
to freshen her mind after finishing house-hold chores and taking care
of her younger sibling. Her parents, both earning petty amounts, have
never been able to send her to any formal school to learn drawing. BRAC
School gave her the opportunity to explore herself and discover her
potential in drawing as she attends various extra-curricular activities
at school. As her drawing has been published in Intervida’s calendar
for 2006, she now dreams to become an artist when she grows up. |
