Afghan Minister seeks continuation of BRAC’s support
 

Ehsan Zia, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), Afghanistan and Asif Rahimi, Senior Policy Advise, MRRD, Afghanistan, held a meeting with senior BRAC officials at the BRAC Head Office on 28th September 2005. The visitors lauded BRAC for its contribution in Afghanistan, especially in areas of microfinance and education. Alongside, BRAC’s assistance was sought to develop commercial entities, organise and provide training programmes to government officials and help devise the strategy of different government agencies. BRAC officials said that what BRAC had learnt through three decades of work in Bangladesh could be employed in Afghanistan and thus avoid recurrence of errors.

Senior BRAC officials present at the meeting included Faruq A. Choudhury, Adviser, Deputy Executive Directors Aminul Alam and Manzoor Hasan, Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Director, BRAC Training Division, Faruq Ahmed, Director, BRAC Health Programme, Safiqul Islam, Head, BRAC Education Programme, Jalaluddin Ahmed, Head, BRAC Afghanistan, Minhaz Uddin Anwar, Coordinator, BRAC Public Affairs and Communications and Rubaba Rahman, International Desk.

The meeting was followed by a dinner hosted by the BRAC Deputy Executive Director, Aminul Alam in honour of the visitors. H.E. Akmal Ghani, Ambassador, Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan, was present on this occasion among other dignitaries.
