Ms Lamia Rashid is the director in charge of the Africa Region at BRAC International. She led the development of the BRAC Africa Strategy 2017-2021, Transforming for Sustainable Impact at Scale. She is currently implementing the Strategy, providing direction on programmatic priorities, operating models and required organisational changes related with resource mobilisation, communications and knowledge management. She is also leading the establishment of a new Office of the Africa Region in Nairobi to provide dedicated support for the Africa programmes.
Previously, Ms Rashid served as the country director of Action Against Hunger in Bangladesh. Prior to this, she was the associate director of BRAC International, where she led strategy formulation for the BRAC International countries, as well as large-scale country and multi-country programmes. She identified fundraising, business development and partnership opportunities for countries, regionally and globally.
Ms Rashid has worked in international development for 25 years in several countries in Asia and Africa, and in organisations including Save the Children and the World Bank. Her expertise lies in the areas of strategy development, programme management, technical support and policy analysis. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College in Massachusetts and a Master’s in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
