Following the devastating Tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2003, BRAC management had called an emergency meeting and decided to go to Sri Lanka with immediate relief and rehabilitation programme. In May, 2005, BRAC registered in Sri Lanka as a Non-Government Organisation in order to expedite its work and run development programmes in the fields of education, health, social development and economic development. In fact, the success of BRAC Afghanistan since its start in 2002 had also inspired BRAC significantly in its journey to Sri Lanka. BRAC Sri Lanka Country
