BRAC UK was registered as a UK charity in 2006 to help further the vision and mission of BRAC.
The three areas of focus continue to be fundraising for BRAC programmes in Asia and Africa, advocacy for international development with a southern perspective, and adapting the successful BRAC approach for disadvantaged diaspora communities in the UK.
Current fundraising priorities for 2010/2011 include:
UK programme areas include financial inclusion and enterprise development in East London, development awareness and advocacy, and volunteering in the UK and Bangladesh.
BRAC UK is also the coordinating office for the Disapora Volunteering Alliance (DVA) in partnership with VSO and DFID.
Donors include: DFID, VSO, Citigroup, Petrofac, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the Tower Hamlets Citizens Advice Bureau and individuals.
BRAC UK is governed by a Board of six Trustees, has 5 full time and 1 part-time staff, 9 sessional workers, consultants, numerous volunteers and interns and receives significant pro bono services. There are two offices in London. Supporter groups are active in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.
