BRAC Limb and Brace Centre
Using its decade of experience running a limb and brace centre in Bangladesh, BRAC opened the doors of its Limb and Brace Centre in Port-au-Prince on September 16th to address the needs of the estimated 8,000 amputees and countless other injured Haitians from the January earthquake.
We are already providing permanent prosthetic devices and orthotic treatment to over 150 patients, and expect to serve over 850 patients within 12 months. Our prosthetic and orthotic devices are designed to be durable and easy to maintain, so that adults can return to work and children can return to school.
Defeating Cholera
BRAC is battling the Cholera epidemic in Haiti, which has already claimed more than 3,500 lives, by providing education and information on cholera prevention methods to all of its micro-franchisees and their families. So far, we’ve provided life-saving information to 250 families.
