Support to Formal School: Cooperation with Government

IMG_2231_1.jpg
The Education Programme’s work at the secondary level started in 2001. Only 2% of secondary schools in Bangladesh are directly managed by the government. The majority of the schools, known as non-government secondary schools, are owned and managed by local communities, even though about 90% of teachers’ salaries and maintenance expenses are paid by the government.

The objective is to bring a qualitative change in the teaching and learning in secondary schools, enhance the capacity of non-government rural secondary school teachers in core subjects and pedagogy.

In collaboration with the government, BRAC initiated secondary teacher training services in 2001 to bring a qualitative change in teaching and learning in secondary schools. BRAC provides training for School Management Committee, head teachers/assistant head teachers and teaching staff to and complement government efforts.

BRAC is doing following four activities to support teachers and students in formal schooling system:
a) Training & Workshops Programme
b) Computer Aided Learning (CAL) Programme
c) Mentoring
d) Chhatrabandhu
