Social Performance Management

Social performance of BRAC’s interventions has been added to the research agenda to explore how BRAC is doing in terms of realising its vision. While the Research and Evaluation Unit is also working with a newly established Social Performance Management (SPM) Committee to develop measurable indicators, distinct research initiatives have also been undertaken by the Unit.

Poverty Scorecard to monitor poverty outreach of microcredit
This project is intended to assist using poverty scorecard in monitoring poverty outreach of BRAC’s microcredit clients. A poverty scorecard has been developed for Uganda. This scorecard has been integrated within the management information system (MIS). The research unit has been closely engaged in fine-tuning the implementation of scorecard in terms training the staffs in collecting data, consulting with monitoring unit to ensure quality of data collected and designing an approach for regular usage of the scorecard data.

The Unit would like to now use the scorecard to do a periodic assessment of change in poverty of clients over time. While this will only be very indicative in terms of monitoring change in poverty among the clients, the scorecard is an effective tool to assess outreach, spatial variation in outreach and trend in outreach.
