Education for Students
Road safety-educated students will grow to be leaders of communities forming opinions and many will be driving vehicles and riding motor cycles. Students of road side educational institutions are selected by the project staff from which suitable teachers are given 2 days road safety training by the road safety trainers of BRAC.
Animation Film
BRAC has undertaken a road safety animation film programme titled Lal, Holud aar Shobuj (LHS) meaning Red (Lal), Yellow (Holud) and Green (Shobuj) - the three colours that are used in expressing the basic rules of safe use of road in the form of traffic lights. These films provide road safety education in an entertaining way on television.
Road Safety Theatre
BRAC’s theatre programme creates separate theatres for pedestrians and drivers theatre on true local road accidents and stage. Local dialects, customs, ethnicity etc. reflect in the theatres.
Driver Road Safety Training
Drivers and driver assistants are put through this training on road safety through a 44-minute training video, conducted by trainers using multimedia projector. Live, animated and motion pictures were filmed and used along with trainers’ commentaries on safe driving so that even drivers without education/literacy would understand.
Door to Door Awareness Campaign
BRAC project staff visit households and shops and make the people present aware of road safety through participatory discussion and practical demonstrations on skills of using the road.
Advocacy and Dissemination of Information
Rallies are organised at campaign areas coinciding with the National Road Safety Day and UN Road Safety Week the project roads comprising activities like sharing of post accident sufferings, discussion on road safety, takes with accident victims and publicity through playing road safety videos and audiocassettes.
