Bangladesh: Health: Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods

This project was initiated to address presbyopia  - a condition predominant amongst the elderly, where the lens of the eye loses its ability to focus, making it difficult to see objects up close.  BRAC has partnered with VisionSpring in this initiative, and  hopes to  increase the productivity of the elderly by providing reading glasses at an affordable price. The identification, diagnosis and delivery of glasses have been assigned to BRAC’s community health promoters and now operates in seven upazilas of the Narsingdi, Manikgonj, Sirajgonj and Narayangonj districts.
